A demand-based methodology for planning the bus network of a small or medium town.

2010

This work aims at developing a demand-based methodology for designing the bus network of a small or medium town. The proposed modelling tool adopts a multi-agent objective function which evaluates performance in the context of different stakeholders: the surplus of travellers (car and bus users); the bus service provider’s revenues and operation costs. This approach was applied to an existing bus network, serving city of Trapani, which is a medium town in the south of Italy (Sicily), with 100000 inhabitants. The bus-based public transport system attracts only about 5% of commuter trips within Trapani (source: National Institute of Statistics, 2005). This paper reports on an analysis of the …

Identification of two novel polymorphisms and a rare deletion variant in the human dopamine D4 receptor gene

1995

We report two novel polymorphisms and a rare deletion variant in the human dopaine D4 receptor gene. The two polymorphisms are characterized by single base pair substitutions, namely a G-->C transversion changing codon 11 from GGG (encoding Gly) to CGG (encoding Arg) and a C-->T transition in position -11 upstream from the start codon. The Arg11 variant occurs at a frequency of about 1% and the C-->T transition at a frequency of about 7% in German control subjects (n = 148). Allele frequencies observed in patients suffering from schizophrenia (n = 256) and bipolar affective disorder (n = 99) were similar. The deletion variant is characterized by a 21 bp deletion affecting codons 36 to 42 co…

Dislocations in AIIIBVI single crystals

1988

High densities of planar defects are evidenced in various AIIIBVI layer compounds by systematic electron microscopy observations with the dark-field weak-beam image technique. Several samples are analyzed, as obtained from different crystal ingots of InSe grown by the Bridgman-Stockbarger method, and some GaS and GaSe single crystals grown both, from the melt and from the vapour. The observed defects are identified mainly as screw and edge dislocations, the orientation of which is obtained in some cases by the analysis of the Moire fringes. Dislocation densities ranging between 108 and 1010 cm−2 are measured, not uniformly distributed in the various regions of each sample. Finally, the obse…
