Low human capital accumulation traps among French NEETs: A Multidimensional and Fuzzy approach
International audience; NEETs are generally considered as young people who cannot acquire human capital either through education, training or professional experience. The aim of this communication is to discuss this issue taking in to account the heterogeneity of human capital acquisition among young people. We use a multidimensional and fuzzy approach. The main advantage of this approach is that it makes it possible to construct an indicator that is similar to a membership function by including different deprivation dimensions. Educational attainment and permanence in NEET situation among youth
Using the French Labour Force Survey, this paper analyses the individual and institutional effects on the transitions into and out of NEET status before and after the crisis. In particular, we question whether the profiles or the labour market transition patterns of young people have changed since the economic crisis. The econometric results indicate that the NEET risks vary according to age, sex, educational level and social origins. They also show that the transition out of NEET status is more related to the educational attainment, after 2008. Conversely, the lack of human capital and social capital increases the retention of youth in NEET situations.
