NEONATAL CAPSAICIN TREATMENT DOES NOT PREVENT SPLANCHNIC VASODILATATION IN PORTAL-HYPERTENSIVE RATS
It has been suggested that the peripheral sensory neurons are involved in the splanchnic hemodynamic changes of portal hypertension. Therefore the influence of permanent ablation of sensory neurons by neonatal capsaicin pretreatment (50 mg/kg, subcutaneously) on the development of the hyperdynamic splanchnic circulation in portal-hypertensive rats was studied. In adulthood, portal hypertension was induced with partial portal vein ligation. Portal hypertension and variceal bleeding: An AASLD single topic symposium
In June 1996, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases sponsored a single topic workshop combining a two-day symposium on liver microcirculation in health and diseases1 followed by a two day consensus workshop on portal hypertension and variceal bleeding. The goal of the combined conference was to identify areas of critical importance in the understanding and treatment of portal hypertension and to foster future collaborative research projects. Reduced mRNA abundance of the main enzymes involved in methionine metabolism in human liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma
Abstract Background/Aims: It has been known for at least 50 years that alterations in methionine metabolism occur in human liver cirrhosis. However, the molecular basis of this alteration is not completely understood. In order to gain more insight into the mechanisms behind this condition, mRNA levels of methionine adenosyltransferase ( MAT1A ), glycine methyltransferase ( GNMT ), methionine synthase ( MS ), betaine homocysteine methyltransferase ( BHMT ) and cystathionine β-synthase ( CBS ) were examined in 26 cirrhotic livers, five hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues and ten control livers.
