Aggressive and nonaggressive rejected students: An analysis of their differences

The present study aimed to analyze differences between aggressive and nonaggressive rejected students in four sets of variables: personal, family, school, and social. Participants in the study were 843 Spanish adolescents ranging in age from 11 to 16 years old, of whom 47% were boys. Results indicated that these two subgroups of rejected students show a different profile. Aggressive rejected students informed of lower levels of family self-esteem, less parental support, higher levels of aggression between their parents at home, and a more offensive parent–child communication in comparison with nonaggressive rejected adolescents. Esta tesis doctoral nace con el propósito de conocer más en detalle algunos aspectos relacionados con el mundo adolescente y la vida de éste en el contexto escolar. En concreto, el objetivo general del estudio es analizar la relación existente entre determinadas variables individuales, familiares y escolares y los siguientes problemas de ajuste conductual y social del adolescente en la escuela: (1) problemas de comportamiento agresivo/violento, (2) problemas de victimización por los iguales, y (3) problemas de rechazo escolar por los compañeros. Adolescent aggression: effects of gender and family and school environments.

The present study examined the influence of family and classroom environments on the development of particular individual characteristics, including level of empathy, attitude to institutional authority and perceived social reputation, and the role these characteristics may in turn play in school aggression. Participants were 1319 adolescents aged 11-16 (47% male) drawn from state secondary schools in Valencia (Spain). Este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar las diferencias en autoestima entre adolescentes con problemas de agresividad en la escuela, adolescentes victimizados por sus iguales y adolescentes que son al mismo tiempo agresores y víctimas en el contexto escolar. Se adopta una concepción multidimensional de la autoestima y se analizan las dimensiones familiar, escolar, social y emocional.
