Level structure of120Sn from the decay of120In and120Sb isomers

Gamma rays in the decay of the 3.2 s (1+) and 44 s (4, 5+)120In isomers and the 15.9 min (1+) and 5.8 d (8−)120Sb isomers have been investigated using Ge(Li) spectrometers and prompt and delayed Ge(Li)-NaI(Tl) coincidence techniques. The constructed level scheme of120Sn contains 18 levels at the following energies (keV): 0 (0+), 1171.6 (2+), 1875.6 (0+), 2096.9 (1, 2, 3), 2160.7 (0+), 2195.0 (4+), 2284.8 (5−), 2355.6 (2+), 2421.2 (1, 2, 3), 2466.3 (4+), 2482.1 (7−), 2643.5 (4+), 3058.6 (4+), 3179.7 (4+), 3349.9 (3, 4+), 3440 (3, 4+), 3447.6 (5, 6+) and 3777 (4+). First collinear laser spectroscopy measurements of radioisotopes from an IGISOL ion source

Abstract The standard Doppler-free technique of collinear laser spectroscopy has been successfully applied to radioisotopes from the ion-guide isotope separator (IGISOL) at the University of Jyvaskyla. The laser resonance fluorescence signals for the 140,142,144 Ba radioisotopes show that the ion beam energy spread is less than 6 eV, allowing the laser technique to have both high resolution and a sensitivity comparable with the best obtained at conventional facilities.

Low-energy rotational bands in the nucleus155Eu

Excited states in the nucleus155Eu have been produced during in-beam bombardments of a154Sm target with3He beams at 22 and 27 MeV. Decay gamma rays were detected using coincidence equipment optimized for low-energy photons. The level scheme is based on the observedγγ-coincidence relationships combined with the information on relative intensities. Tentatively suggested spin assignments follow from the apparent rotational character of the nucleus. Experimental observations are compared with predictions calculated from a particle-rotor model with a nonspheroidal Woods-Saxon potential.

Low-lying excitations in the odd-odd nucleus154Eu

The doubly odd nucleus154Eu was produced during in-beam bombardments of a154Sm target with3He and deuteron beams at 27 and 10 MeV. The resulting gamma-rays were investigated using prompt and delayed gamma-gamma-coincidence equipment. The half-life of the isomeric 2+ level was determined as 2.2±0.1 μs. The partial level scheme, including numerous previously unidentified excitations, can be divided into two separate groups of levels. The results provide evidence for the existence of a very regular ground band and two rather regularK=3 level structures, whose configurations are closely related to it. The first results with the new JYFL 14 GHz ECR ion source

Abstract A new 14 GHz ECR ion source has been built for the Accelerator Laboratory in the Department of Physics (JYFL), University of Jyvaskyla. This source belongs to the family of the LBNL AECR-U-based ECR ion sources. The operation during the first four months has shown that the new ion source performs well and is able to produce intensive highly charged ion beams. For example, 145 μA of O7+ ion beam was recorded. The production of iron and boron ion beams was tested using the MIVOC method. The 56Fe11+ ion beam current reached a value of 115 μA. The intensities of 11B3+ and 11B5+ ion beams were 235 and 52 μA, respectively. This iron beam intensity is the second highest and the boron beam…

Beam phase measurement system for the K130 cyclotron in Jyväskylä

Abstract A phase measurement system for Jyvaskyla new K = 130 heavy ion cyclotron has been designed and realized. The phase measurement is done using a set of capacitive probes to detect phase information from the internal ion beam. This data is vital for tuning purposes to obtain an isochronous magnetic field and to maximize the ion beam intensity.

Beamline pulsing system for cyclotrons

Abstract A beamline pulsing system for cyclotrons is presented. The function of this system is to modify the structure of a cyclotron ion beam guided to the desired research target by a beamline. In some in-beam experiments, an adjustment of the time structure of the beam is sometimes needed. This kind of situation occurs if, for example, the life time of the target material is longer than the period corresponding to the beam frequency. In this case, the frequency of the ion pulses hitting the target is 10–21 MHz depending on the frequency of the acceleration voltage. Remeasurement of the Lifetime of the Isomeric 9/2+State in155Dy

The isomeric 9/2+ state at 132.2 keV in the nucleus 155Dy has been populated through 3He bombardment (E = 27 MeV) of a 155Gd target. The half-life of the the 9/2+ level has been determined as 51 ± 3 ns. The decay modes of the 11/2-, 234.2 keV level have been confirmed. For both levels the hindrance factors calculated with the particle-rotor model have been compared with other predictions available.

Low-lying levels in the nuclei151Nd and155Sm

Decay properties of excited states in the151Nd and155Sm nuclei produced by 10 MeV douterons have been investigated with in-beam gamma-gamma-coincidence equipment during bombardment of the150Nd and154Sm targets. The results largely confirm the data obtained earlier for these nuclei. The (d, p γ) reaction channel favors population of odd-parity low-spin levels, whose energies follow the rule of regular band structure for well-deformed nuclei. The level schemes are interpreted with calculations using an axial particle-rotor model with a Woods-Saxon potential.

Levels of118Sn populated in the decay of118In and118Sb isomers

Gamma-rays in the disintegration of 5.0 s (1+), 8.5 s (7−, 8−), and 4.4 min (4+, 5+)118In isomers and of 3.5 min (1+) and 5.1 h (8−)118Sb isomers have been investigated using Ge(Li) detectors and Ge(Li)-NaI(Tl) coincidence spectrometers. The decay schemes of these isomers have been constructed incorporating 17 levels in the product nucleus,118Sn, at the following energies (in keV): 0 (0+), 1229.5 (2+), 1757.5 (0+), 2043.1 (2+), 2056.4 (0+), 2280.3 (4+), 2321.3 (5−), 2326.4 (1+, 2+), 2402.7 (4+), 2488.8 (4+), 2496.5 (0+), 2575.2 (7−), 2677.3, 2733.7 (2+), 2929.8, 2963.5 (4+), and 3137.1 (0+). On the yrast two proton-two neutron hole states in208Po

High-spin levels in208Po, populated in the208Pb(α,4n)-reaction, were studied usingα-particles in the energy region 41–51 MeV. The energies of levels above the 6+ level have an uncertainty of about 10 keV due to the fact that the 8+→6+ transition has not been observed so far, but this transition has previously been established to be converted neither in theK-shell nor in theL-shells. It was found that the yrast cascade ofγ-rays from a 19+ level at 5896+e keV feeds levels of lower spin which all can be explained as originating from two proton-two neutron hole configurations.
