New Strong Bounds on sub-GeV Dark Matter from Boosted and Migdal Effects
Due to the low nuclear recoils, sub-GeV dark matter (DM) is usually beyond the sensitivity of the conventional DM direct detection experiments. The boosted and Migdal scattering mechanisms have been proposed as two new complementary avenues to search for light DM. In this work, we consider the momentum-transfer effect in the DM-nucleus scattering to derive the new bounds on sub-GeV DM for these two scenarios. We show that such an effect is sizable so that the existing bounds on the DM-nucleus scattering cross section can be improved significantly.
Intercomparison of Soil Moisture Retrieved from GNSS-R and from Passive L-Band Radiometry at the Valencia Anchor Station
In this paper, the SOMOSTA (Soil Moisture Monitoring Station) experiment on the intercomparison of soil moisture monitoring from Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (GNSS-R) signals and passive L-band microwave radiometer observations at the Valencia Anchor Station is introduced. The GNSS-R instrument has an up-looking antenna for receiving direct signals from satellites, and a dual-pol down-looking antenna for receiving LHCP (left-hand circular polarization) and RHCP (right-hand circular polarization) reflected signals from the soil surface. Background: Current management practices and outcomes in weaning from invasive mechanical ventilation are poorly understood. We aimed to describe the epidemiology, management, timings, risk for failure, and outcomes of weaning in patients requiring at least 2 days of invasive mechanical ventilation. Methods: WEAN SAFE was an international, multicentre, prospective, observational cohort study done in 481 intensive care units in 50 countries. Existence of homoclinic orbits and heteroclinic cycle in a class of three-dimensional piecewise linear systems with three switching manifolds
In this article, we construct a kind of three-dimensional piecewise linear (PWL) system with three switching manifolds and obtain four theorems with regard to the existence of a homoclinic orbit and a heteroclinic cycle in this class of PWL system. The first theorem studies the existence of a heteroclinic cycle connecting two saddle-foci. The existence of a homoclinic orbit connecting one saddle-focus is investigated in the second theorem, and the third theorem examines the existence of a homoclinic orbit connecting another saddle-focus.
