Perceived impact of anger on performance of skilled karate athletes
Abstract Objective Although previous research has provided evidence of the facilitating effects of anxiety upon athletic performance, research attention on the impact of other discrete emotions has been scarce. Therefore, this study, based on the Individual Zones of Optimal Functioning (IZOF) model ( Hanin, 2000 , Hanin, 2003 , Hanin, 2007 ) investigated anger and anger-related symptoms and the functional impact upon karate performance. Method High-level karate athletes (N = 20; M age = 24.95, 17–38 yrs. old) were asked to recall their best and worst performances and to identify from two to three significant situations prior to, during, and after both performances. Interactive effects of emotions on performance: an exploratory study in elite skeet shooters
The individual zones of optimal functioning (IZOF) model (1978–2014): Historical overview of its development and use
The individual zones of optimal functioning (IZOF) model is a sport-specific framework that describes the relationship between emotional experiences and relative success in sporting tasks on the basis of individual rather than group-based patterns. In an effort to create a comprehensive database of IZOF research and reviews, a literature search was conducted using several databases and existing reference lists. This analysis yielded a total of 183 IZOF-based publications (from 380 compiled). The list of publications was subdivided in…
