Homosexual acts between women were criminalized in Finland in the 1889 Penal Code which also criminalized men's homosexual acts for the first time explicitly in Finnish legislation. The inclusion of women in the Penal Code took place without much ado. In the article it is argued that the uncomplicated juxtaposing of men and women was due to the legacy of a cultural pattern where man and woman, as categories, were not in an all-pervasive polarity to each other, for example, in sexual subjectivity. In this paper I review a number of explanations for the emergence of the modern homosexual category in Western (mainly Northwest European) cultures. I suggest there are four different emphases in respect of the social and cultural factors given priority in interpretations of the formation of the homosexual category. Aikaisemmat tutkimukset viittaavat siihen, että koulun yhteisöllisellä ilmapiirillä on yhteys oppilaiden yhteiskunnallisen vaikuttamisen orientaatioon. Eräiltä osin tuo yhteys on kuitenkin kyseenalaistettu. tässä artikkelissa puretaan kysymys osiin ja tutkitaan, millainen yhteys oppilaiden ja opettajien kokemuksilla koulun ilmapiirin yhteisöllisyyden osatekijöistä on oppilaiden yhteiskunnallisen vaikuttamisen orientaatioon. Tutkimusaineistona käytettiin kansainvälisen ICCS 2016 -tutkimuksen Suomesta kerättyjä opettaja- ja oppilaskyselyaineistoja.
