Ibandronate Shows Marked Pain Relief and a Favorable Renal Safety Profile – Updated Results of a Non Interventional Study in Breast Cancer Patients w…

2009

Abstract Background: Bisphosphonates (BP), the current standard of care for patients with metastatic bone disease (MBD) due to breast cancer (BC), effectively reduce the incidence of skeletal related events (SRE) and the severity of bone pain. However, BP treatment may adversely affect kidney function and thus renal safety is a key determinant of BP risk/benefit assessment. In randomized clinical trials (RCT), Ibandronate (IBA), a third generation amino-BP available in IV and oral formulations, has demonstrated sustained effects on SRE and bone pain with a low incidence of renal adverse events. To verify those results under real life conditions, a large-scale non interventional study (NIS) …

Characteristics and Clinical Outcome of Breast Cancer Patients with Asymptomatic Brain Metastases

2020

Background: Brain metastases (BM) have become a major challenge in patients with metastatic breast cancer. Methods: The aim of this analysis was to characterize patients with asymptomatic BM (n = 580) in the overall cohort of 2589 patients with BM from our Brain Metastases in Breast Cancer Network Germany (BMBC) registry. Results: Compared to symptomatic patients, asymptomatic patients were slightly younger at diagnosis (median age: 55.5 vs. 57.0 years, p = 0.01), had a better performance status at diagnosis (Karnofsky index 80&ndash

Treatment and outcomes of patients in the Brain Metastases in Breast Cancer Network Registry

2018

Brain metastases (BMs) have a major impact on life expectancy and quality of life for many breast cancer patients. Knowledge about treatment patterns and outcomes is limited. We analysed clinical data of 1712 patients diagnosed with BMs from breast cancer between January 2000 and December 2016 at 80 institutions.Median age at diagnosis of BMs was 56 years (22-90 years). About 47.8% (n = 732) of patients had HER2-positive, 21.4% (n = 328) had triple-negative and 30.8% (n = 471) had hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative (luminal-like) primary tumours. The proportion of patients with HER2-positive BMs decreased comparing the years 2000-2009 with 2010-2015 (51%-44%), whereas the percenta…

Predicting Prognosis of Breast Cancer Patients with Brain Metastases in the BMBC Registry—Comparison of Three Different GPA Prognostic Scores

2021

Several scores have been developed in order to estimate the prognosis of patients with brain metastases (BM) by objective criteria. The aim of this analysis was to validate all three published graded-prognostic-assessment (GPA)-scores in a subcohort of 882 breast cancer (BC) patients with BM in the Brain Metastases in the German Breast Cancer (BMBC) registry. The median age at diagnosis of BM was 57 years. All in all, 22.3% of patients (n = 197) had triple-negative, 33.4% (n = 295) luminal A like, 25.1% (n = 221) luminal B/HER2-enriched like and 19.2% (n = 169) HER2 positive like BC. Age ≥60 years, evidence of extracranial metastases (ECM), higher number of BM, triple-negative subtype and l…
