Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a genetic disease mainly caused by mutations in the low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLLDLLDL-R) gene. However, FH-like phenotypes may also arise from mutations occurring in other genes, the products of which normally interact with the LDLLDLLDL receptor.
