Prospects for the extraction of vertical bar Vcb vertical bar from B-c->J/Psi mu(+)nu decays at LHC
We discuss the possibility of extracting ∣Vcb∣ from the future measurement at LHC of the Bc → J/ψ μ+ ν decay rate followed by the leptonic decay J/ψ → μ+μ−. We examine in detail the influence of the measurement of the muons' momenta and vertex reconstruction in the final uncertainty of ∣Vcb∣, as well as the required theoretical inputs at both the production and weak decay level, and their reliability in this regard. We stress the relevance of a rigorous description of the fragmentation contributions to inclusive production at large transverse momentum of heavy quarkonia in pp collisions.
Charged-particle multiplicities in pp interactions at root s=900 GeV measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
The first measurements from proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. Data were collected in December 2009 using a minimum-bias trigger during collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 900 GeV. The charged-particle multiplicity, its dependence on transverse momentum and pseudorapidity, and the relationship between mean transverse momentum and charged-particle multiplicity are measured for events with at least one charged particle in the kinematic range |eta|500 MeV. The measurements are compared to Monte Carlo models of proton-proton collisions and to results from other experiments at the same centre-of-mass energy. The charged-particle multiplicity …
