Il paper presenta i risultati parziali di un’attività di ricerca che l’autrice sta svolgendo in Piemonte nell’ambito del Bando Talenti della Società Civile promosso dalla Fondazione Giovanni Goria e dalla Fondazione CRT, cofinanziato dall’associazione spagnola INCUNA (Industria, Cultura, Naturaleza) di Gijón. La ricerca riguarda le tematiche della rigenerazione partecipata delle aree produttive dismesse come risorsa per lo sviluppo territoriale. COSMOPOLITAN HABITAT WORKSHOP

The Cosmopolitan Habitat workshop invites international PhD candidates, students, young scientists, academics, and urban planning and design professionals to discuss and reflect on the spatial dimension of migration, the different human cultures that increasingly characterize European cities, and new living spaces in the project area, the historic centre of Palermo. The students, together with young urban planning and design scientists, are asked to discover potentialities for Cosmopolitan Habitat in Palermo and design new future scenarios. The paper reports the outcomes of the workshop.

The research topic is the re-cycling of brownfields with social innovative practices, and how it can activate the urban and regional development. The research analyses critically and interprets the re-cycle theory (Marini and Bocchi 2014; Carta 2014) developed by the Italian Research “Re-cycle Italy” (PRIN) focusing on its social innovative aspects (Moulaert et al., 2005; Phills et al., 2008, Tekin and Tekdogan, 2015). The social regeneration of brownfields as an activator of peri-urban development. The Añana salt valley in Spain as good model of brownfield regeneration

Productive and extractive districts in a state of neglect are in dire need of regeneration, especially brownfields that are in rur-urban sites and could disfigure the landscape. These elements should be considered as resources to define a new territorial value. The present paper shows an empirical example of brownfield re-cycle that produce social innovation in rur-urban sites, this case study is the Añana salt valley and it is situated in Spain. Brownfields, in fact, are catalysts of social, economic, cultural, and ecological revitalization.
