Abstract Background Epidemiological studies in atrial fibrillation (AF) illustrate that clinical complexity increase the risk of major adverse outcomes. We aimed to describe European AF patients’ clinical phenotypes and analyse the differential clinical course. Methods We performed a hierarchical cluster analysis based on Ward’s Method and Squared Euclidean Distance using 22 clinical binary variables, identifying the optimal number of clusters. We investigated differences in clinical management, use of healthcare resources and outcomes in a cohort of European AF patients from a Europe-wide observational registry. Der Keto-Diabur-Test 5000 als schnelle Diagnosehilfe beim Tod durch Unterkühlung

Der Keto-Diabur Test 5000 (Boehringer Mannheim) ist ein Schnelltest zur Bestimmung von Glucose- und Ketonkorpern im Urin. Mit diesem routinemasig durchgefuhrten Test wurden bei der Obduktion von drei eindeutig infolge Erfrierens bzw. Unterkuhlung verstorbener Personen stark positive Resultate fur Ketone erhalten, ohne das gleichzeitig die Glucose im Harn erhoht war. Mittels Headspace-Gaschromatographie konnten in allen drei Urinproben uberhohte Aceton-Konzentrationen von 140, 1004 und 2703 mg/L festgestellt werden. Ein stark positiver Keto-Diabur-Test 5000 bei normalem Glucose-Befund im Urin kann somit als diagnostische Hilfe zur Erkennung eines Todes infolge Unterkuhlung dienen.

Strontium90 (Sr90) is an artificial nuclear fission product of the atmospheric a-bomb testing between 1945 and 1979. It was spread throughout the atmosphere in the following years. Sr90 is an analogue to calcium and therefore enriched in human bones. Several studies especially in the 1960s and 1970s were undertaken to investigate the Sr90 burden and the resulting incorporated radiation in humans, but present studies are missing. Am Beispiel eines Falles aus dem Obduktionsgut des rechtsmedizinischen Institutes Frankfurt werden diagnostische Moglichkeiten zum Nachweis einer Silikonembolie aufgezeigt. Es handelt sich um den Fall einer 21 Jahre alten Frau, die nach kosmetischen Injektionen von flussigem Silikon verstarb. Mapping of the magnetic field to correct systematic effects in a neutron electric dipole moment experiment

Experiments dedicated to the measurement of the electric dipole moment of the neutron require outstanding control of the magnetic-field uniformity. The neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) experiment at the Paul Scherrer Institute uses a Hg199 co-magnetometer to precisely monitor temporal magnetic-field variations. This co-magnetometer, in the presence of field nonuniformity, is, however, responsible for the largest systematic effect of this measurement. To evaluate and correct that effect, offline measurements of the field nonuniformity were performed during mapping campaigns in 2013, 2014, and 2017.
