Are credit screening contracts designed for men?
AbstractAccess to credit is key to succeed in business. Theoretical models of credit under asymmetric information classify borrowers and grant or deny credit, typically based on incentive-compatible contracts with collateral. However, if women are particularly risk averse, female borrowers may be wrongly classified and denied credit. We conduct in three countries a laboratory experiment to study this systematic gender difference. Results show that incentive-compatible contracts with collateral fail to disclose women’s private information, while disclosing men’s private information. We suggest that banks should incorporate the gender difference in risk attitudes to avoid the glass ceiling in…
Adquisición de competencias profesionales en el Trabajo Fin de Máster: Colaborar para aportar soluciones reales
[EN] In order to motivate the student through a professional experience, and to improve the teaching-learning process by letting the student gain experience, we implement a collaborative learning-through-service methodology. This method increases the student involvement level and the deep understanding of the tools. As a matter of example, we present the implementation of this method in the Final Master Thesis (FMTh) of the Master on Corporate Finance at the University of Valencia (UV). In these FMTh, students have to valuate an actual innovation developed by UV researchers (on chemistry, in this case) with the goal of helping themto transfer (sell) this innovation to the industry. This col…
Economic experiments on gender behavior in financial decision making

Determinants of migratory flow in Europe: A fuzzy-set approach
Abstract This article examines the variables that explain immigrants' decisions to remain in 18 European countries at three key stages of the European economic cycle: 2006 (economic boom), 2009 (the height of the economic and financial crisis), and 2014 (beginning of recovery). Population variables, environmental and health service variables, and economic variables were considered. Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) was used to conduct the analysis. The findings indicate that immigration behavior differs according to the stage of the economic cycle. When the economic cycle is in a favorable stage (boom and economic recovery), the GDP growth and land surface area of the recei…
Determinants of Immigration in Europe. The Relevance of Life Expectancy and Environmental Sustainability
This research analyzes the main variables that determine immigration in Europe and includes aspects related to the economy, population, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. The empirical analysis consists of two sets of data: one made up of all EU member states (EU-28) and the other containing countries that form a part of the Eurozone (EU-19), using the Generalized Method of Moments. The sample covers the period between 2000 and 2014, and the data are analyzed separately and comparatively in the most relevant stages during that time (economic prosperity, crisis, and recovery). The most notable results indicate that the variables related to GDP and public debt largely serve to just…
