Influence of vessel dilatation on restenosis after successful percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of vessel dilation on restenosis after successful percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) on the basis of quantitative angiographic analysis. To have the best comparison possible, we restrospectively studied a homogenous series of patients from the early 1980s treated according to a standardized PTCA procedure. The study group consisted of 86 patients with stable angina pectoris and single-vessel disease, all of whom underwent successful PTCA for a short concentric lesion in proximal vessel parts.
