Splenic marginal zone lymphoma: A prognostic model for clinical use

The Integruppo Italiano Linfomi (IIL) carried out a study to assess the outcomes of splenic marginal zone lymphoma and to identify prognostic factors in 309 patients. The 5-year cause-specific survival (CSS) rate was 76%. In univariate analysis, the parameters predictive of shorter CSS were hemoglobin levels below 12 g/dL (P < .001), albumin levels below 3.5 g/dL (P = .001), International Prognostic Index (IPI) scores of 2 to 3 (P < .001), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels above normal (P < .001), age older than 60 years (P = .01), platelet counts below 100 000/μL (P = .04), HbsAg-positivity (P = .01), and no splenectomy at diagnosis (P = .006). A 24-year-old man presented with abdominal pain, fever and jaundice. Ultrasound examination of the abdomen showed a lithiasis of the gallbladder and a dilatation of the common bile duct without stones inside. A MR cholangiography showed a stenosis in the distal tract of the common bile duct which was dilated. The same picture was demonstrated by an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The patient underwent an explorative laparotomy. No stones were found in the gallbladder, but in its infundibular region a hard nodule was present and located in the thickness of the wall. La sperimentazione è stata finalizzata all’analisi dei dati acquisiti dalle stazioni permanenti durante l’arco temporale compreso tra la GPS weeks 1490-1542 e corrispondente al periodo tra Luglio 2008 e Luglio 2009. L’analisi di serie temporali di coordinate provenienti da stazioni GNSS risulta un utile strumento da applicarsi, con diverse finalità, sia a monte che a valle del processo di trattamento dei dati misurati.
