A prospective trial for defining a subset of patients with limited metastatic gastric cancer who may be candidates for bimodal treatment strategies: …

2012

4090 Background: The utility of surgery for metastatic gastric cancer is debated. A prospective trial was performed to evaluate a prognostic model for selecting patients (pts) treated with systemic chemotherapy (ct) who may also be candidates for surgical intervention. Methods: Using a predefined algorithm pts with untreated gastric cancer were prospectively stratified into 3 groups: operable (OD), limited metastatic (LD), or extensive metastatic (ED) disease and treated with 5-FU, oxaliplatin, leucovorin and docetaxel (FLOT). LD was defined as: distant intra-abdominal lymph node metastases only or/and a maximum of 1 organ involved, normal serum alkaline phosphatase, < 5 liver lesions, …

A Randomized, Blinded, Prospective Trial to Compare the Safety and Efficacy of Three Bowel-Cleansing Solutions for Colonoscopy (HSG-01*)

2003

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS There are conflicting data regarding the optimal bowel preparation for colonoscopy. This study was carried out to compare the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of three widely used bowel lavage solutions: the standard polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution based on the GoLytely formulation (PEG-EL1; Klean-Prep); a sulphate-free PEG-EL solution based on the NuLytely formulation (PEG-EL2, Endofalk); and a sodium phosphate preparation (NaP, Fleet Phospho-Soda). PATIENT AND METHODS A total of 185 consecutive patients scheduled for elective colonoscopy were prospectively randomly assigned to undergo pre-colonoscopic bowel cleansing with either 4 l of PEG-EL1 (n=64), …

Endomicroscopy of Small Bowel Diseases: Coeliac Disease, Lymphoma

2007

The different components making up the complement of immune elements within the alimentary tract vary greatly. In contrast to the Waldeyer’s ring region, the oesophagus and stomach are normally almost devoid of such immune apparatus, presumably because of the rapid transit of food and the chemically hostile environment for micro-organisms provided by salivary and gastric secretions. Only in pathological conditions, such as viral or fungal oesophageal infections, reflux oesophagitis or Helicobacter gastritis, does one encounter acquired mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue in these sites [1]. By contrast, the large and small bowel normally possess mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT), most …

Perioperative chemotherapy with fluorouracil plus leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel versus fluorouracil or capecitabine plus cisplatin and epiru…

2019

Background Docetaxel-based chemotherapy is effective in metastatic gastric and gastro-oesophageal junction adenocarcinoma. This study reports on the safety and efficacy of the docetaxel-based triplet FLOT (fluorouracil plus leucovorin, oxaliplatin and docetaxel) as a perioperative therapy for patients with locally advanced, resectable tumours. Methods In this controlled, open-label, phase 2/3 trial, we randomly assigned 716 patients with histologically-confirmed advanced clinical stage cT2 or higher or nodal positive stage (cN+), or both, resectable tumours, with no evidence of distant metastases, via central interactive web-based-response system, to receive either three pre-operative and t…
