Open availability of articles and raw research data in spanish pediatrics journals
[EN]: Introduction: The open Access to publications and the raw data allows its re-use and enhances the advancement of science. The aim of this paper is to identify these practices in Spanish pediatrics journals. Method: We reviewed the author's instructions in 13 Spanish pediatrics journals, identifyingtheir open access and deposit policy. Results: Eight journals allow open access without restriction, and 5 provide information on theability to re-use and depositing data in repositories or websites. Conclusions: Most of the journals have open access, but do not promote the deposit of additionalmaterial or articles in repositories or websites.
The 100 most-cited articles in orthodontics: A bibliometric study
ABSTRACT Objectives: To identify and analyze the 100 most-cited articles in orthodontics indexed in the Web of Science Category of “Dental, Oral Surgery and Medicine” from 1946 to 2016. This paper examines the influence of the loss of reference points for the digital readout in user interaction. This has been done using 5 eBooks from different disciplines, accessed through various consultation platforms. We have examined different aspects of the information architecture of these sites to find out if users are aware of their location in the text during reading and maintaining control to scroll through it. The results indicate the need to design more robust information architectures to overcome the problems of loss of location and convert the digital reading experience into a viable alternative

An analysis of the scientific productivity and visibility of publications on usability (1971-2005)
Aims: To analyse usability-related articles published in the period 1971-2005 from a bibliometric point of view. Methods: A search for articles was made in the CSIC databases, the Social Science Citation Index, Science Citation Index, PsycInfo, MEDLINE and Inspec databases, using ad hoc search strategies designed for each. Contribution, specific contribution and overlap indices were calculated, as were the indicators of change in scientific production, the productivity of institutions and journals, and the distribution of journals by area of knowledge. AbstractIn the past few years, skills related to emotional intelligence (EI) have acquired special relevance in the educational domain. This study assesses EI in a sample of 155 students of 5 different specialities of a Master’s degree in Teacher Training for Secondary Education. Data collection was conducted through the administration of the Trait Meta Mood Scale-24 (TMMS-24) and the Mayer, Salovey & Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT). Introduccion: el objetivo principal del presente estudio fue la identificacion de los motivos que retrasan el acceso de los pacientes dependientes de alcohol de la Comunidad Valenciana a centros especificos de tratamiento. Metodo: fueron entrevistados 563 pacientes de Unidades de Conductas Adictivas y Unidades de Alcohologia. The sharing of research data in the cell & Tissue engineering area: Is it a common practice?
The availability of research data sets is an important milestone because it can enhance the dynamics of research. This study aims to analyze the PubMed Central repository to determine the availability and type of raw data sets in Cell & Tissue Engineering journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports. The number and types of files were registered. The main finding of this study is that, beyond the mandatory deposit of data in specific repositories that some journals require, the exchange of data as supplementary material in the Cell & Tissue Engineering journals is not a common practice since researchers are still reticent to do so.

[Purpose]: The purpose of this study to investigate the evolution and current status of peer-reviewed publications concerning generic drugs during the past few decades. [Methods]: Scientific articles about generic drugs published until 2012 were retrieved through the PubMed/MEDLINE database, and a content analysis was performed. [Findings]: Our study revealed an increasing number of publications on generics since 1984. Comparative Study of the Perceived Quality of Life of Patients in Treatment for Cocaine and Heroin Dependence in Spain: Differences by Gender and Time in Treatment
This is a cross-sectional study in which we compared the perceived quality of life (QoL) of patients receiving outpatient treatment for cocaine (n = 727) and heroin dependence (n = 469), by analyzing differences by gender and time in treatment. Participants were recruited from addictive behavior centers in Spain in 2004. The World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment Instrument (WHOQOL-Bref) was used as a measure. Analysis of covariance and multivariate linear regression were used. This study shows the relevance of considering the role of gender in QoL studies, and the need to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment in the improvement of QoL. Limitations of the study were noted.

Effect of intermittent exposure to ethanol and MDMA during adolescence on learning and memory in adult mice
Abstract Background Heavy binge drinking is increasingly frequent among adolescents, and consumption of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) is often combined with ethanol (EtOH). The long-lasting effects of intermittent exposure to EtOH and MDMA during adolescence on learning and memory were evaluated in adult mice using the Hebb-Williams maze. Methods Adolescent OF1 mice were exposed to EtOH (1.25 g/kg) on two consecutive days at 48-h intervals over a 14-day period (from PD 29 to 42). MDMA (10 or 20 mg/kg) was injected twice daily at 4-h intervals over two consecutive days, and this schedule was repeated six days later (PD 33, 34, 41 and 42), resulting in a total of eight injections. …

The novelty-seeking phenotype modulates the long-lasting effects of intermittent ethanol administration during adolescence.
The aim of the present study was to investigate if a novelty-seeking phenotype mediates the long-lasting consequences of intermittent EtOH intoxication during adolescence. The hole board test was employed to classify adolescent mice as High- or Low-Novelty Seekers. Subsequently, animals were administered ethanol (1.25 or 2.5 g/kg) on two consecutive days at 48-h intervals over a 14-day period. [EN] Sharing research data is an increasingly necessary requirement for the advancement of science. The aim of this study was to analyse the policies on openness in sharing scientific research data in substance abuse journals. Journals included in the Substance abuse area of the Journal Citation Reports were used for the analysis, with reference to the instructions to authors published on the journals websites. In 67.6% of the journals, it is possible to store materials in thematic or institutional repositories; 47% accept supplemental material; 64.7% allow the reuse of data, and 41.2% admit the publication of their data on a website. Scientific literature on Web usability is presented by the bibliometric analysis of published Science and Scopus database articles available on the Web. We analyzed the productivity, temporal distribution and scientific production by authors, institutions, countries and journals.
