Variation in the Sizes of Chthamalid Barnacle Post-Settlement Cyprids on European Shores
As part of a wider study on the settlement and recruitment of Chthamalus spp. in Europe, this study investigated whether chthamalid cyprids can be separated by length on a European scale. Variation in cyprid length with latitude and temporal variation at selected localities were also examined. The lengths of cyprids collected between 1996-1999 on nine rocky shores in Europe are reported. Elminius modestus cyprids were found only at Roscoff, NW France and could be distinguished due to their Carapace shape and length. Parasite infracommunities as predictors of harvest location of bogue (Boops boops L.): a pilot study using statistical classifiers
The accuracy of classifying bogue (Boops boops) according to the fishery from which it was harvested was evaluated by applying several statistical classification techniques to fish parasite abundances. Bogue captured in 2001 in two fisheries off the Atlantic coast of Spain were compared with one off the Spanish Mediterranean coast. Three species of Magnibursatus Naidenova, 1969 (Digenea: Derogenidae) from Atlantic and Black Sea marine teleosts
Three species of Magnibursatus Naidenova, 1969 are described from marine teleosts: M. skrjabini (Vlasenko, 1931), the type species of the genus, from the gobiid Zosterisessor ophiocephalus on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast; M. bartolii sp. n. from the sparid Boops boops off the Atlantic coast of Spain; and M. minutus sp. n. from the gobiid Neogobius eurycephalus on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. M. bartolii differs from all other Magnibursatus species in its larger sinus-sac (length >250 µm, width >150 µm) and the more posterior location of testes.
