The new neutron-rich isotope183Lu

1983

The new neutron-rich isotope183Lu was produced in multinucleon transfer reactions by irradiatingnatW/Ta targets with 11.7 MeV/u136Xe ions, and identified by mass separation and decay spectroscopy. The measured half-life of183Lu is 58±4 s. The properties of the excited states of183Hf are discussed.

Alpha-Photon Coincidence Spectroscopy Along Element 115 Decay Chains

2014

Produced in the reaction 48Ca+243Am, thirty correlated α-decay chains were observed in an experiment conducted at the GSI Helmholzzentrum fur Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt, Germany. The decay chains are basically consistent with previous findings and are considered to originate from isotopes of element 115 with mass numbers 287, 288, and 289. A set-up aiming specifically for high-resolution charged particle and photon coincidence spectroscopy was placed behind the gas-filled separator TASCA. For the first time, γ rays as well as X-ray candidates were observed in prompt coincidence with the α-decay chains of element 115.

Fine structure of the Gamow-Teller resonance revealed in the decay of150Ho2−isomer

2003

The $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays following the $72s$ ${}^{150}\mathrm{Ho}$ ${2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ Gamow-Teller $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay have been investigated with the CLUSTER CUBE setup, an array of six EUROBALL CLUSTER Ge detectors in close cubic geometry, providing a $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ ray detection sensitivity of $2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$ per $\ensuremath{\beta}$-parent decay for $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray energies up to 5 MeV. The fine structure of the Gamow-Teller resonance at 4.4-MeV excitation in ${}^{150}\mathrm{Dy}$ has been studied. The resolved levels are compared with Shell Model predictions.

Beta decay of the new isotope101Sn

1995

The very neutron-deficient isotope 101Sn was produced in a 50Cr(58Ni, 2p5n) reaction and its decay properties were determined for the first time. By using chemically selective ion sources of an on-line mass separator, the energy spectrum and the half-life (3 ± 1 s) of beta-delayed protons of 101Sn were measured. These results are compared to theoretical predictions.

Spectroscopic Tools Applied to Element Z = 115 Decay Chains

2014

Nuclides that are considered to be isotopes of element Z = 115 were produced in the reaction 48Ca + 243Am at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung Darmstadt. The detector setup TASISpec was used. It was mounted behind the gas-filled separator TASCA. Thirty correlated α-decay chains were found, and the energies of the particles were determined with high precision. Two important spectroscopic aspects of the offline data analysis are discussed in detail: the handling of digitized preamplified signals from the silicon strip detectors, and the energy reconstruction of particles escaping to upstream detectors relying on pixel-by-pixel dead-layer thicknesses.

Gamow-Teller decay of118Pd and of neighbouring even isotopes of palladium

1989

Neutron-rich isotopes of palladium were produced via the fission of238U by 20 MeV protons. These isotopes were selected using the ion guide-fed on-line mass-separator facility IGISOL at Jyvaskyla. Their decays were studied byβ-ray,γ-ray and conversion-electron spectroscopy. For114Pd and116Pd, the decay schemes established previously were confirmed; additionally multipolarities were determined for a few transitions. In the case of118Pd, only an approximate half-life was known from a previous radiochemical experiment. In the present study, 15 gamma transitions were observed, most of which were placed in a decay scheme. The half-life and the decay energy were found to beT1/2=1.9±0.1 s andQβ=4.…

Spin-flip? ? decay of even-even deformed nuclei110Ru and112Ru

1991

Neutron-rich nuclides110Ru and112Ru produced in symmetric fission of238U by 20 MeV protons have been studied at the IGISOL facility by means ofβ-ray,γ-ray and conversion electron spectroscopy. A total of 12 and 6γ-transitions were observed in the decays of110Ru and112Ru, respectively. Multipolarities were determined for a few transitions. The beta decay half-life was determined to be 11.6±0.6 s for110Ru and 1.75±0.07 s for112Ru. As a side product, a new value of 2.1±0.3 s for theβ half-life of the112Rh 1+ state was obtained. The decay energy measured with the plastic scintillator was 2.81 ±0.05 MeV for110Ru and 4.52 ±0.08 MeV for112Ru. The beta decay schemes of110Ru and112Ru isotopes indica…

A new pulsed release method for element selective production of neutron rich isotopes near 208Pb

1998

Abstract A new method to reduce the isobaric contamination problem for the production of neutron rich Bi, Pb and Tl nuclei at on-line mass separators, based on the pulsed release of these radioactive species, is presented. The results of a feasibility study are reported.

Gamow-Teller Beta Decay of Neutron Rich Tc, Ru, Rh and Pd Isotopes

1988

During recent experiments at the IGISOL-facility several new neutron rich nuclides have been discovered, including the first direct observations of the beta decays of 111Tc, 112Ru, 113Ru, 114Ru, 113Rh, 115Rh, 116Rh and 118Pd. The role of the νg7/2 → πg9/2 transformation in the beta decays of the odd-odd 110–116Rh and the even-even 114–118Pd isotopes is shown to be dominant. The experimental results are compared with shell model calculations including deformation and pairing.
