Background-The usefulness of cardiovascular disease (CVD) predictive equations in different populations is debatable. We assessed the efficacy of the Framingham-REGICOR scale, validated for the Spanish population, to identify future CVD in participants, who were predefined as being at high-risk in the PREvención con DIeta MEDiterránea (PREDIMED) study-a nutrition-intervention primary prevention trial-and the impact of adherence to the Mediterranean diet on CVD across risk categories. Surface passivation of gallium selenide by nitrogen implantation

In this paper we report on the characterization of nitrogen-implanted single-crystal GaSe samples. Nitrogen atoms were implanted at 80 keV, with doses ranging from 4 × 10 13 to 10 15 N + ions cm -2 . Next, samples were aged in open air and characterized by small-area XPS, together with an unimplanted clean surface, in order to quantify the effects of the nitrogen implantation. In general, we found that the oxidation was fully prevented in N + -implanted samples.

SiO2-supported vanadium magnesium mixed oxides as selective catalysts for the oxydehydrogenation of short chain alkanes

Abstract Unsupported and SiO 2 -supported VMgO mixed oxides catalysts have been prepared, characterized and tested in the oxidation of propane, n -butane and propylene. Mg-vanadates are observed by XRD, IR and Raman spectroscopy in both pure and supported VMgO catalysts, although the effective Mg/V ratio, in the VMgO phases formed, depends on the silica content. Since SiO 2 reacts partially with MgO during the calcination step, forming Mg 2 SiO 4 , the effective Mg/V ratio depends on the silica content. In this sense, pyro -Mg 2 V 2 O 7 is mainly formed on supported catalysts with Mg/V atomic ratios lower than 4, while ortho -Mg 3 V 2 O 8 is observed on supported catalysts with Mg/V atomic …

Photophysical behavior of 3-methylquinoline and 3-bromoquinoline

Abstract The phosphorescence emission and excitation spectra and their polarizations have been studied for 3-methylquinoline and 3-bromoquinoline in methylcyclohexane and ethanol glasses at 77 K. From the results obtained in 3-methylquinoline (τp = 1.30 s in ethanol, τp = 1.05 s in methylcyclohexane and the out-of-plane polarization) it is concluded that the emission originates from a triplet state of 3ππ∗ character. In 3-bromoquinoline, the phosphorescence lifetimes (ca. 8 ms in a non-polar solvent and 15 ms in a polar solvent) and the negative degree of polarization indicate an emitting state of ππ∗ character that is strongly coupled to a higher-lying triplet state of the nπ∗ type. Phosphorescence emission and polarization of quinoline 3-carbonitrile

Abstract The phosphorescence emission and excitation spectra and their polarization have been studied for quinoline 3-carbonitrile in methylcyclohexane and ethanol glasses at 77 K. From the results obtained in this molecule (τ=1.15 sec in ethanol, τ=1.04 sec in methylcyclohexane and out-of-plane polarization) it is concluded that the emission is orginated from a triplet state of 3 ππ * character. The role of molybdenum in Mo-doped V–Mg–O catalysts during the oxidative dehydrogenation of n-butane

Abstract A detailed study on the influence of the addition of molybdenum ions on the catalytic behaviour of a selective vanadium–magnesium mixed oxide catalyst in the oxidation of n-butane has been performed. The catalysts have been prepared by impregnation of a calcined V–Mg–O mixed oxides (23.8 wt% of V2O5) with an aqueous solution of ammonium heptamolybdate, and then calcined, and further characterised by several physico-chemical techniques, i.e. SBET, XRD, FTIR, FT-Raman, XPS, H2-TPR.
