In vitro quantitation of the effects of magnetic fields and radiofrequencies on amino acid metabolism
The extensive use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in medical diagnosis needs experimental confirmation of the real biological harmlessness of magnetic fields and radiofrequencies in the imaging process. To date, no unquestionable conclusions have been drawn and experimental results differ in various literature reports. We investigated the effects of radiofrequencies and magnetic fields on the amino acid content of plasma samples from 10 healthy volunteers aged 25 to 30 years; the samples were exposed for 60 minutes to MR fields at 0.5 T with the sequences commonly used in clinical practice. After exposure to magnetic fields, the samples were analyzed with chromatography and the results compar…
Role of Densitometric Criteria in Evaluation of Effectiveness of Antiangiogenic Therapies in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: An Italian Clinical Experience.
Background/Aim: To evaluate the role of densitometric criterion using the Choi Criteria in the assessment of the response to antiangiogenic treatments of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) compared to the RECIST criteria. Patients and Methods: Fifty-four patients (mean age=50.6 years ) affected by advanced colorectal cancer and with hepatic and possibly peritoneal and pulmonary metastases, that can be treated with bevacizumab, were prospectively evaluated by computerized tomography (CT) scan. Metastases were also evaluated by CT in onedimensional form according to RECIST. Results: Results show that in 58% of analyzed cases, stable disease according to RECIST coincided with stable disease a…
Prognostic value of hyperattenuating middle cerebral artery sign at CT in cerebral infarction
To assess the prognostic value of hyperattenuating middle cerebral artery sign at CT in acute cerebral infarction.Ninety-two patients with acute cerebral infarction in the sylvian area were retrospectively reviewed. All patients underwent unenhanced CT 12-24 hours after the onset of symptoms and follow-up CT within 48-72 hours. Initial CT scans were evaluated by consensus by three radiologists to confirm or exclude the presence of hyperattenuating middle cerebral artery sign. History, cardiovascular risk factors and neurological impairment at discharge (mean 25 days) were recorded for each patient. The degree of disability was graded 0 (no disability) to 6 (death). Patients were divided int…
