The Role of Phospholipase D and MAPK Signaling Cascades in the Adaption of Lichen Microalgae to Desiccation: Changes in Membrane Lipids and Phosphoproteome.

Classically, lichen phycobionts are described as poikilohydric organisms able to undergo desiccation due to the constitutive presence of molecular protection mechanisms. However, little is known about the induction of cellular responses in lichen phycobionts during drying. The analysis of the lipid composition of the desiccated lichen microalga Asterochloris erici revealed the unusual accumulation of highly polar lipids (oligogalactolipids and phosphatidylinositol), which prevents the fusion of membranes during stress, but also the active degradation of cone-shaped lipids (monogalactosyldiacylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine) to stabilize membranes in desiccated cells. The level of pho…

Recomendaciones en el manejo de la pandemia por coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) en pacientes con trasplante renal

The SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic is evolving very quickly and means a special risk for both immunosuppressed and comorbid patients. Knowledge about this growing infection is also increasing although many uncertainties remain, especially in the kidney transplant population. This manuscript presents a proposal for action with general and specific recommendations to protect and prevent infection in this vulnerable population such as kidney transplant recipients. Resumen: La pandemia por coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) está evolucionando de manera muy rápida y representa un riesgo especial en pacientes inmunodeprimidos y con comorbilidades añadidas. El conocimiento sobre esta in…

Rapid progression from oral leukoplakia to carcinoma in an immunosuppressed liver transplant recipient

Immunosuppression used to avoid graft rejection in solid organ transplantation recipients leads to a variety of side-effects, and an increased rate of infections and de novo malignancies. Oral conditions usually associated with immunosuppressive drugs include fungal and viral infection, and lip lesions, but intra-oral carcinoma has not been reported as having a high incidence. This report deals with a male liver transplant recipient receiving FK506 (5 mg/day) and prednisone (20 mg/day) who was diagnosed with a homogeneous leukoplakia on the floor of the mouth 4 months after transplantation, and 4 months later with a squamous cell carcinoma growth at the site of this lesion. The rapid transf…

The oral KIF11 inhibitor 4SC‐205 exhibits antitumor activity and potentiates standard and targeted therapies in primary and metastatic neuroblastoma models

Inhibidor de KIF11; Terapias dirigidas; Metástasis Inhibidor de KIF11; Teràpies dirigides; Metàstasi KIF11 inhibitor; Targeted therapies; Metastasis In summary, our study provides a rationale for the future therapeutic integration in clinical trials of 4SC-205, an structurally distinct oral KIF11 inhibitor that shows potent antitumor activity in multiple preclinical neuroblastoma models and sensitizes neuroblastoma cells to standard chemotherapy and specific neuroblastoma-targeted therapies.
