Search for an Invisibly Decaying Z′ Boson at Belle II in e+e−→μ+μ−(e±μ∓) Plus Missing Energy Final States

2020

Theories beyond the standard model often predict the existence of an additional neutral boson, the Z′. Using data collected by the Belle II experiment during 2018 at the SuperKEKB collider, we perform the first searches for the invisible decay of a Z′ in the process e+e-→μ+μ-Z′ and of a lepton-flavor-violating Z′ in e+e-→e±μZ′. We do not find any excess of events and set 90% credibility level upper limits on the cross sections of these processes. We translate the former, in the framework of an Lμ-Lτ theory, into upper limits on the Z′ coupling constant at the level of 5×10-2-1 for MZ′≤6 GeV/c2.

First Evidence for cos2β>0 and Resolution of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa Quark-Mixing Unitarity Triangle Ambiguity

2018

We present first evidence that the cosine of the CP-violating weak phase 2β is positive, and hence exclude trigonometric multifold solutions of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) Unitarity Triangle using a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B^{0}→D^{(*)}h^{0} with D→K_{S}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} decays, where h^{0}∈{π^{0},η,ω} denotes a light unflavored and neutral hadron. The measurement is performed combining the final data sets of the BABAR and Belle experiments collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain (471±3)×10^{6}BB[over ¯] pairs recorded by the BABAR detector and (772±11)×10^{6}BB[over ¯] p…

Precise Measurement of the D0 and D+ Lifetimes at Belle II

2021

We report a measurement of the D^{0} and D^{+} lifetimes using D^{0}→K^{-}π^{+} and D^{+}→K^{-}π^{+}π^{+} decays reconstructed in e^{+}e^{-}→cc[over ¯] data recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The data, collected at center-of-mass energies at or near the ϒ(4S) resonance, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 72  fb^{-1}. The results, τ(D^{0})=410.5±1.1(stat)±0.8(syst)  fs and τ(D^{+})=1030.4±4.7(stat)±3.1(syst)  fs, are the most precise to date and are consistent with previous determinations.

Spin dependence of {\eta} meson production in proton-proton collisions close to threshold

2018

Taking advantage of the high acceptance and axial symmetry of the WASA-at-COSY detector, and the high degree of the polarized proton beam of COSY, the reaction pp{\to} pp{\eta} has been measured close to threshold to explore the analyzing power Ay. The angular distribution of Ay is determined with the precision improved by more than one order of magnitude with respect to previous results allowing a first accurate comparison with theoretical predictions. The determined analyzing power is consistent with zero for an excess energy of Q = 15 MeV signaling s wave production with no evidence for higher partial waves. At Q = 72 MeV the data reveals strong interference of P s and P p partial waves …

Search for B+→K+νν¯ Decays Using an Inclusive Tagging Method at Belle II

2021

A search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decay B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] is performed at the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 63 fb^{-1} collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance and a sample of 9 fb^{-1} collected at an energy 60 MeV below the resonance. Because the measurable decay signature involves only a single charged kaon, a novel measurement approach is used that exploits not only the properties of the B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] decay, but also the inclusive properties of the other B meson in the ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] event, to suppress the background from other B meson decays and light-qua…

Study of the thermochromic phase transition in CuMo$_{1-x}$W$_x$O$_4$ solid solutions at the W L$_3$-edge by resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy

2020

Polycrystalline CuMo$_{1-x}$W$_x$O$_4$ solid solutions were studied by resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy (RXES) at the W L$_3$-edge to follow a variation of the tungsten local atomic and electronic structures across thermochromic phase transition as a function of sample composition and temperature. The experimental results were interpreted using ab initio calculations. The crystal-field splitting parameter for the 5d(W)-states was obtained from the analysis of the RXES plane and was used to evaluate the coordination of tungsten atoms. Temperature-dependent RXES measurements were successfully employed to determine the hysteretic behaviour of the structural phase transition between the $…

Charge Symmetry Breaking in dd->4He{\pi}0 with WASA-at-COSY

2014

Charge symmetry breaking (CSB) observables are a suitable experimental tool to examine effects induced by quark masses on the nuclear level. Previous high precision data from TRIUMF and IUCF are currently used to develop a consistent description of CSB within the framework of chiral perturbation theory. In this work the experimental studies on the reaction dd->4He{\pi}0 have been extended towards higher excess energies in order to provide information on the contribution of p-waves in the final state. For this, an exclusive measurement has been carried out at a beam momentum of p=1.2 GeV/c using the WASA-at-COSY facility. The total cross section amounts to sigma(tot) = (118 +- 18(stat) +- 13…

Electronic structure of cubic ScF$_3$ from first-principles calculations

2012

The first-principles calculations have been performed to investigate the ground state properties of cubic scandium trifluoride (ScF$_3$) perovskite. Using modified hybrid exchange-correlation functionals within the density functional theory (DFT) we have comprehensively compared the electronic properties of ScF$_3$ obtained by means of the linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO) and projector augmented-waves (PAW) methods. Both methods allowed us to reproduce the lattice constant experimentally observed in cubic ScF$_3$ at low temperatures and predict its electronic structure in good agreement with known experimental valence-band photoelectron and F 1$s$ X-ray absorption spectra.

<title>Origin of visible photoluminescence in NiO and Ni<formula><inf><roman>c</roman></inf></formula>Mg&lt…

2003

A study of the visible photoluminescence in single-crystal NiO and NicMg1-cO (c = 0.99, 0.98 and 0.95) solid solutions is presented for the first time. Two wide luminescence bands, peaked at approximately 12000 cm-1 and approximately 18500 cm-1, were observed. The dependence of their intensity and position on the excitation energy, temperature, and composition were investigated. We attribute the origin of two photoluminescence bands to the impurity- or defect perturbed Ni2+ excitons.© (2003) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
