Contribución al conocimiento de los moluscos del Pleistoceno Inferior del yacimiento de Barranco León (Cuenca de Guadix-Baza)
Se exponen los resultados obtenidos en el análisis de la asociación malacológica de dos muestras pertenecientes a la capa D del yacimiento del pleistoceno inferior de Barranco León (Cuenca de Guadix-Baza). Los principales resultados obtenidos son la relación de especies que componen la asociación malacológica y su abundancia relativa, que indican su marcado carácter acuático. Por otra parte, pese a las limitaciones impuestas por la escasez de información tafonómica y la cautela que sugieren ciertos indicadores, se aporta, a partir del análisis de las exigencias ecológicas de cada taxón, una interpretación paleoambiental sobre las condiciones existentes en el momento del depósito. Datos para la Historia de la Malacología Española: Las ediciones del <em>Catálogo</em> de Graells
Graells's contribution to the history of Malacology, his Catalogo de los Moluscos terrestes y de agua dulce observados en Espana y descripcion y notas de algunas especies nuevas o poco conocidas del mismo pais, is the first synthesis by a Spanish author on the subject dealing with the whole of continental Spain and the Balearic Islands. He described several new species, some of which have been included in the synonym of species known previously. The name of some of the species discussed has been abandoned, while for other cases his description remains valid.
Factors affecting the distribution of recent lacustrine ostracoda from the Caicedo de Yuso-Arreo Lake (Western Ebro Basin, Spain)
Recent Ostracoda assemblages of the Caicedo de Yuso Lake have been described as representative of palustrine/lacustrine environments in Iberian temperate lakes. This study considers the changes in assemblages at a fixed station during two consecutive annual cycles, as well as their distribution in summer and winter profiles of the lake. Total sample-assemblages have been quantified as species diversities, measured by the Shannon-Wiener index H (S). The trends of this index are compared to physical parameters (temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, CO2) of the bottom waters of this lake. Variation in Sr uptake in the shell of the freshwater gastropod Bithynia tentaculata from Lake Arreo (northern Spain) and culture experiments
The Sr uptake features in Bithynia tentaculata aragonite shells from monthly collections in Lake Arreo (northern Spain) over a two-year period are compared with those from the same species grown in culture experiments with similar waters under controlled temperature. The shell aragonite of B. tentaculata from Lake Arreo formed in isotopic equilibrium with the lake water. A comparison of the stable oxygen isotope values (δ18O) from the shells and waters allowed the selection of suitable shells for Sr uptake studies. Lacustrine sedimentation in the diapir-controlled Miocene Bicorb Basin, Eastern Spain
The Miocene Bicorb Basin is a small elongated basin developed by normal faulting of a thick Jurassic–Cretaceous carbonate succession and subsequent diapirism of Upper Triassic mudstones and evaporites. The basin fill comprises a sequence over 650 m thick formed by two units. The lower, alluvial unit consists of a complex alternation of conglomerates, sandstones, mudstones, and minor lacustrine limestones. The upper unit comprises marginal alluvial and lacustrine deposits in which seven lacustrine facies associations have been distinguished. From 1995 until 2006 new paleontological excavations were carried out at Venta del Moro (Valencia, Spain), one of the classical Uppermost Miocene (Upper Turolian, MN 13) vertebrate locality of Spain. In the present paper a preliminary synthesis of the methods and main results are presented. Abundant faunal remains were recovered including ten vertebrate taxa no previously recorded from the site. Up to now 43 mammalian species are known from the site. Preliminary list of others groups, as mollusc, are given. The occurrence of foraminifera is reported for the first time.
Une faune très diversifiée du Pléistocène inférieur de la Sierra de Quibas (province de Murcia, Espagne)
The Quaternary karstic site of Sierra de Quibas (Abanilla, province of Murcia, Spain) has provided a wide faunal list with more than 60 species. The assemblage of the taxa Arvicola deucalion, Castillomys rivas rivas, Eliomys intermedius, Equus altidens, Capra sp. aff. C. alba and cf. Praeovibos allows the correlation with other Spanish Lower Pleistocene sites in the Betic Cordillera, as Plines 1, Orce 3 and Venta Micena. Therefore Quibas can be located between 1.3 and 1.0 Ma. The palaeoenvironmental features of the area around the karstic cavity and the palaeoclimatic regime are inferred.

A synthesis of the Spanish continental Neogene is presented by designing an integrated correlative chart of the Neo" gen-e "succes"Siuns-ofthe "lberian-PeninsuIa-. -Ninemain-sedimentary-breaks-have-been -distinguished-in-most-of-the "basins. They are considered a valuable criteria for correlation as they occur in similar time intervals from basin to basin. The determined sedimentary breaks occur in the Agenian, Ramblian, Middle Aragonian, Late Aragonian, Late Vallesian, Middle Turolian, Late Turolian, Late Ruscinian-Early Villafranchian, and Villafranchian ages. La fauna del pleistoceno inferior de la Sierra de Quibas (Abanilla, Murcia)
El yacimiento kárstico cuaternario de la Sierra de Quibas (Abanilla, Murcia) ha proporcionado una amplia lista faunística constituida por 53 especies repartidas entre gasterópodos, miriápodos, anfibios, reptiles, aves y mamíferos. En el conjunto de los gasterópodos destaca Palaeoglandina, un género que se extingue en el resto de Europa durante el Plioceno y que se mantiene como relicto en el Pleistoceno de la Península Ibérica. Dos de las especies de aves determinadas, Gypaetus barbatus y Gerontieus eremita, y una de las serpientes, Elaphe cf. E. sealaris, apenas se hallan representadas en el registro fósil. Paleoenvironmental evolution of the Pliocene Villarroya Lake, northern Spain. A multidisciplinary approach
The Pliocene Villarroya basin fill consists of lacustrine and alluvial deposits over 100 m thick. The lacustrine deposits, up to 30 m thick, comprise three sequences. The two lower sequences consist of profundal, laminated deposits formed by mostly terrigenous facies that are overlain by charophytic carbonates and varves. The uppermost, third sequence made up of massive bioturbated mudstones corresponds to a very shallow lacustrine-palustrine environment. Bulk mineralogy comprises carbonates, clay minerals, quartz and feldspars. The carbonates are: exogenic, biogenic calcite and biogenic aragonite. The Quaternary karstic site of Sierra de Quibas (Abanilla, Murcia, Spain) has provided a wide faunistic list with 53 species distributed among gastropods, myriapods, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Especially interesting among the gastropods is Palaeoglandina that became extinct in Europe during the Pliocene. It remains as a relict genus in the Pleistocene of the Iberian Peninsula. Two of the birds, Gypaetus barbatus and Geronticus eremita, and a snake, Elaphe cf. E. sealaris, are scarcely represented in the fossil record.
