Robust model-following control of parallel UPS single-phase inverters
This paper presents a robust control technique applied to modular uninterruptible power-supply (UPS) inverters operating in parallel. When compared to conventional proportional-integral (PI) control, the proposed technique improves the response of the output voltage to load steps and to high distorted output currents, reducing the distortion of the output voltage. Furthermore, an excellent distribution of currents between modules is achieved, resulting in fine power equalization between the inverters on stream. The crossover frequency of the different loop gains involved is moderate, so that robustness to variations of the operation point and to modeling uncertainties is achieved. A compara…
Electrochemical Deposition Mechanism for ZnO Nanorods: Diffusion Coefficient and Growth Models
Fabrication of nanostructured ZnO thin films is a critical process for many applications based on semiconductor devices. So on understanding of the electrochemical deposition mechanism is also fundamental for knowing the optimal conditions on growth of ZnO nanorods by electrodeposition. In this paper the electrochemical mechanism for ZnO nanorods formation is studied. Results are based on the evolution of the diffusion coefficient using the Cotrell equation, and different growth models proposed by Scharifcker and Hills for nucleation and growth.
Surgeons' fear of getting infected by COVID19: A global survey
During the last three months, COVID- 19 pandemic had led to a serious backlog of operations globally, and plans for restarting operation are imperative. Recommendations for surgical activities were studied, aiming to protect the surgical staff from being infected. In the meantime, it is also important to give attention to the surgeon’s personal feeling during work. We conducted a survey to investigate global surgi- cal practices during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the surgeon’s personal feeling was also investigated in the sur- vey. In this special letter, we performed multivariate analysis to explore factors that associated with surgeon’s fear of getting infected by COVID-19.
Critical role of TLR4 in uncovering the increased rewarding effects of cocaine and ethanol induced by social defeat in male mice
Abstract Background Substance use disorders and social stress are currently associated with changes in the immune system response by which they induce a proinflammatory state in neurons and glial cells that eventually modulates the reward system. Aims The aim of the present work was to assess the role of the immune TLR4 (Toll-like receptors 4) and its signaling response in the increased contextual reinforcing effects of cocaine and reinforcing effects of ethanol (EtOH) induced by social defeat (SD) stress. Methods Adult male C57BL/6 J wild-type (WT) mice and mice deficient in TLR4 (TLR4-KO) were assigned to experimental groups according to stress condition (exploration or SD). Three weeks a…
Impact of asymptomatic COVID-19 patients in global surgical practice during the COVID-19 pandemic
The rapid spread of COVID-19 has changed the global surgical care. Patients infected with COVID-19 may present without typical symptoms, and such asymptomatic patients may potentially trigger in-hospital outbreaks by transmitting the disease to health care providers and other hospitalized patients. Further, asymptomatic COVID-19 patients have worse postop- erative outcomes with an unexpectedly high morbidity and mortality, reaching 20⋅5 per cent deaths. However, we do not have objective global data on this issue. In an attempt to clarify the current global surgical practice under the COVID-19 pandemic particularly focusing on the preoperative screening of asymptomatic COVID-19 patients, we …
Isolation and characterization of microsatellite markers in the portunid crab Liocarcinus depurator using FIASCO and 454 next-generation sequencing
The portunid crab Liocarcinus depurator is the dominant decapod crustacean present on mud bottoms of the continental shelf of the Mediterranean Sea. In order to better describe its genetic structure, a total of 11 microsatellites were isolated and tested in 28 L. depurator individuals from the Mediterranean locality of Tarragona. Initially, microsatellite isolation was carried out using the FIASCO methodology, but only 2 useful primer pairs could be designed. Given the low yield obtained, an alternative method based on 454 next-generation sequencing was assayed, which provided excellent results and from which another 9 primer pairs gave positive genotyping. All loci tested were polymorphic,…
