Lepton conservation and time reversal in β-decay

It was investigated which conclusions can be inferred from β-decay experiments taking into account experimental errors but without making theoretical assumptions.

The Large Hadron–Electron Collider at the HL-LHC

The Large Hadron-Electron Collider (LHeC) is designed to move the field of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) to the energy and intensity frontier of particle physics. Exploiting energy-recovery technology, it collides a novel, intense electron beam with a proton or ion beam from the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). The accelerator and interaction region are designed for concurrent electron-proton and proton-proton operations. This report represents an update to the LHeC's conceptual design report (CDR), published in 2012. It comprises new results on the parton structure of the proton and heavier nuclei, QCD dynamics, and electroweak and top-quark physics. It is shown how the LH…

Circular Polarization of External Bremsstrahlung Produced by Beta Rays

For energies smaller than 600 kev, the polarization was previously measured using forward scattering from magnetized iron, but a quantitative comparison was not performed. Computations were done for monoenergetic electrons falling on a thin absorber, whereas in all experiments the whole beta spectruan and thick absorbers were used. It is shown thnt even in this case a comparison with theory is possible as the diffusion of the electrons in the absorber has practically no influence on the polarization. Strong dependence of the circular polarization on the atomic number of the absorber is investigated. (W.D.M.)

Die zirkulare Polarisation der inneren Bremsstrahlung beim K-Einfang von A37

The circular polarization of the internal bremsstrahlung was measured for various photon energies by scattering on magnetized iron. In the spectral range investigated, complete polarization was found within the measuring error. An average value of P/sub c/ = +1.03 plus or minus 0.04 was obtained. This shows that the maximum parity violation occurs also in K-capture. (tr-auth)

Search for neutral MSSM Higgs bosons at LEP

The four LEP collaborations, ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL, have searched for the neutral Higgs bosons which are predicted by the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The data of the four collaborations are statistically combined and examined for their consistency with the background hypothesis and with a possible Higgs boson signal. The combined LEP data show no significant excess of events which would indicate the production of Higgs bosons. The search results are used to set upper bounds on the cross-sections of various Higgs-like event topologies. The results are interpreted within the MSSM in a number of "benchmark" models, including CP-conserving and CP-violating scenarios. Thes…
