description

The observatory "Astronomical, chronometric and meteorological" of Besançon was created in 1878 and has since developed by diversifying its research topics. Astronomy and chronometry remain nevertheless strong axes of the establishment. From the "historical" Besançon observatory, which regrouped the astronomy part of UTINAM and which was already in charge of providing observational services recognized by INSU (time and frequency metrology, large-scale surveys and data archiving), the establishment became the Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers Terre-Homme-Environnement-Temps-Astronomie (OSU THETA) of Franche-Comté/Bourgogne by federating the following laboratories or teams: UTINAM (UMR CNRS/UFC 6213) in its entirety, Chrono-Environnement (UMR CNRS/UFC 6249), BioGéoSciences (UMR CNRS/UB 6282), the team Spectroscopie Moléculaire Processus Collisionnels et Applications of the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire Carnot de Bourgogne (UMR CNRS/UB 5209), the Time-Frequency department of Femto-ST (UMR CNRS/UFC/ENSMM/UTBM 6174), the ASTER team of the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire Carnot de Bourgogne. The OSU THETA of Franche-Comté/Bourgogne gathers today approximately 600 people (approximately 2/3 in Besançon and 1/3 in Dijon).
