International audience; International and comparative analysis of the efficiency of educational systems This paper looks at different ways for assessing the efficiency of educational systems from a comparative perspective. This includes the internal effectiveness, namely the analysis of education outcomes such as the expected number of years of schooling, the percentage of pupils reaching the end of a cycle or passing a diploma, pupil performances (both cognitive and non-cognitive achievement). It includes also the external effectiveness such as the impact of education on development and economic growth, (macro perspective) as well as on the professional career of individuals (micro perspective). The effectiveness indicators are subsequently related to input once (total expenditures for education, unit costs) in order to assess the relative efficiency of education systems worldwide.
