catalaAl llarg de la historia de la llengua catalana, el nom de sant Vicent Ferrer (ca. 1350- 1419) ha estat associat a l’estima per la seua llengua materna, ja que sempre va predicar «in sua vulgari idiomate Catalonie seu Valentino». Els valencians han utilitzat aquesta creenca per a invocar la proteccio de sant Vicent sobre la «llengua valenciana» y sobre el poble valencia. Es una de les raons que expliquen la gran popularitat del sant entre els valencians. Les modalitats amb que s’han expressat des del segle xvi les apologies de la llengua invocant l’exemple de sant Vicent posen de manifest una situacio de conflicte linguistic. EnglishThroughout the history of the Catalan language, the name of Saint Vincent Ferrer (ca. 1350-1419) has been associated with esteem for his mother tongue, as he always preached «in sua vulgari idiomate Catalonie seu Valentino». The Valencians have used this belief to invoke the protection of Saint Vincent on the «llengua valenciana» and on the Valencian people. It is one of the reasons that explains the saint’s great popularity among the Valencians. The ways in which the apologies of the language have been expressed since the 16th century invoking the example of Saint Vincent reveal a situation of linguistic conflict.
