Early language contact research often focused on the so-called explicit language mix-ing, where the elements of one language were clearly present in the second language. This article is devoted to the less frequent manifestations of the so-called implicit lan-guage mixing, where only structures of one language are used, whereas the means of expression are taken from the other language. The research corpus is made up of state-ments by bilingual Upper Silesians, who were interviewed as part of a project on time witnesses accounts. The informants live in an ethnically and nationally heterogeneous region, whose inhabitants have different language repertoires depending on factors such as place of residence and age. The article analyses the interviews of members of the oldest generation of native inhabitants whose language repertoire comprises Silesian and German Upper Silesian dialects. Taking into account that among older members of language minorities in multilingual communities phenomena of language contact are less common and and less frequent than in younger generations (cf. Riehl 2014: 39), the article tries to show which types of implicit language contact are most prevail among representatives of the older generation.
