Aim: Historians often point out that an average Pole knows Gabriel Narutowicz as the first president of the Second Republic, murdered in the assassi-nation attempt on December 16th, 1922 in Zachęta. Unfortunately, Poles have little information about his education and professional achievements. That is why his education was presented in the article.Methods: A descriptive and explanatory method.Results: The analysis of biographical materials carried out for the purposes of the article indicates that Gabriel Narutowicz was a person who obtained a very good education. In a great deal it was the crew of his mother ‒ Wiktoria, née Szczepkowski, who initially guaranteed him home schooling and then sent him to a good gymnasium in Liepaja. One study in Switzerland turned out to be crucial for the career of Gabriel Narutowicz. There, at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Zurich University of Technology, he gained a solid foundation of knowledge and practical skills which, combined with a talent and diligence, allowed him to achieve great successes. Especially in the field of water engineering.Conclusions: The life story of Gabriel Narutowicz clearly shows that he was a very well educated person. Attention is drawn to the fact that Narutowicz man-aged to cope in a foreign country. He was also an independent person who was able to defend his social and political views. The following years of his biography, which were no longer the purpose of the article, showed that he used the period of school and academic study well. This was confirmed by several years of his career as an academic lecturer at the Zurich Polytechnic.
