Masteroppgave idrettsvitenskap ME517 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 Background:There is little research knowledge on how students experience being evaluated in physical education. I however find this to be an engaging subjectfor both teachers and students. Therefore, based on this, I wish to investigatethis subject further. Purpose:The purpose of this study is to investigatehow high school students experience being evaluated in physical education. Thesis statement:“How do high school students experience being evaluated?” Method:Two schools from Vest-Agder have helpedshed light on this issue through qualitative semi structured research group interviews.Analytical terminologydeveloped by Pierre Bourdieu will here be applied as defining elements in the analysis of the interviews. Findings:Overall my analysis shows that students find that achieving the grad 5 is easy, while achieving the grade 6 is nearly impossible. Students find that performance and results will result in the highest symbolic capital, and that the highest grades are given to the students who perform above the expected level. This indicatesthat physical education,as a subject, favour students with high cultural capital. Information on how the students could improve their performance in the subject is limited. Achieving thegrade 6 could therefore prove to be challenging. Conclusion:It can be concluded that students experience evaluations in physical education differently, based on thecultural capital the student possesses. Keywords:Studentassessment, capital, grades, physical education, curriculum.
