description

After mentioning the turning of the ETUC following the rejection of the Treaty for a Constitution for Europe, which it had supported, even though some of its member organisations, notably the French and Dutch, had distanced themselves from it, or even called for it to be opposed - a contextual element -, this chapter examines how the ETUC approaches the place and role of women within it and, more broadly, in European trade unionism, but also in the various policies, particularly social policies, of the European Union in which it intervenes or is consulted. The answer leads to three perspectives concerning :1. The ETUC's policy for dealing with gender inequalities (including the gender mainstreaming charter)2. The issue of gender inequalities (and the promotion of women) in European trade unionism (according to the various surveys available)3. The influence of the ETUC in the European decision-making process and in collective bargaining on these same gender inequalities. In terms of resources, these perspectives are based mainly on the numerous texts published by the ETUC on the subject, particularly online , with an exhaustive review of texts dealing with women and gender inequalities: in total, more than 200 texts of diverse status.
