The cry of the peacocks. Fear of imagination in American literature
Luis Sebastián Villacañas De Castrosubject
Literaturadescription
This essay attempts to analyze a certain fear of imagination manifest in North-American literature. It does so, firstly, through a journey along its history, from the very origins of the USA as a nation up to the 19th century. Secondly, by displaying the conservative strategy whereby the 20th century poet Wallace Stevens would have been able to find a solution to this problem.
