description

The review of hunting texts published in the interwar periodical Płomyk shows their formal, genre, and narrative variety. In the periodical, literary works such as short stories, legends, folk tales, and memoirs function on nearly equal rights as paraliterary and joumalistic texts (reportages, discussions, prose of memorial and documentary character). One may distinguish two conventions: the realistic and the fabular-fantastical, with the former being dominant. They are joined by the common goal: to teach about culture, natural history, and geography, and to invoke emotions. The authors describe charms and natural riches of the country, while trying to convey educational values: responsibility for the State of the environment, admiration and respect for nature, pride in Polish roots and the beauty of the Polish landscape, especially its uniqueness. The fantasy texts highlight the Polish character of the land, which is achieved by detailed descriptions of settings, presence of historical figures, and discussed themes.
