Performance‐determining factors in biathlon prone shooting without physical stress

This study investigated the most important factors determining biathlon prone shooting performance. 10 female and 16 male biathletes (age 19.9 ± 2.9 years) from the national teams of Finland and Vuokatti-Ruka Sports Academy performed 65 biathlon prone shooting shots without physical stress under laboratory conditions. Shooting performance and multiple aiming point trajectory variables were measured together with an analysis of triggering force. Timing of Triggering in Relation to the Cardiac Cycle in Nonelite Rifle Shooters

This study investigated the timing of the trigger pull in relation to the cardiac cycle during air rifle shooting. Electrocardiogram) was recorded from 20 male nonelite rifle shooters in two separate testing sessions. The testing was conducted at an indoor shooting range using an optoelectronic shooting system. Each participant fired a shot in the standing position at a distance of 10 m from the target. Parallel fictitious domain method for a non‐linear elliptic neumann boundary value problem

Parallelization of the algebraic fictitious domain method is considered for solving Neumann boundary value problems with variable coefficients. The resulting method is applied to the parallel solution of the subsonic full potential flow problem which is linearized by the Newton method. Good scalability of the method is demonstrated on a Cray T3E distributed memory parallel computer using MPI in communication. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Multiplicity results for asymptotically linear equations, using the rotation number approach

By using a topological approach and the relation between rotation numbers and weighted eigenvalues, we give some multiplicity results for the boundary value problem u′′ + f(t, u) = 0, u(0) = u(T) = 0, under suitable assumptions on f(t, x)/x at zero and infinity. Solutions are characterized by their nodal properties.

A Multiplicity result for a class of strongly indefinite asymptotically linear second order systems

We prove a multiplicity result for a class of strongly indefinite nonlinear second order asymptotically linear systems with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The key idea for the proof is to bring together the classical shooting method and the Maslov index of the linear Hamiltonian systems associated to the asymptotic limits of the given nonlinearity.

Efficient formulation of a two-noded geometrically exact curved beam element

The article extends the formulation of a 2D geometrically exact beam element proposed by Jirasek et al. (2021) to curved elastic beams. This formulation is based on equilibrium equations in their integrated form, combined with the kinematic relations and sectional equations that link the internal forces to sectional deformation variables. The resulting first-order differential equations are approximated by the finite difference scheme and the boundary value problem is converted to an initial value problem using the shooting method. Assessing 4th Grade Students’ Computational Thinking through Scratch Programming Projects

Computational thinking (CT) has been introduced in primary schools worldwide. However, rich classroom-based evidence and research on how to assess and support students’ CT through programming are particularly scarce. This empirical study investigates 4th grade students’ (N = 57) CT in a comparatively comprehensive and fine-grained manner by assessing their Scratch projects (N = 325) with a framework that was revised from previous studies to aim towards enhancing CT. On the numerical solution of some finite-dimensional bifurcation problems

We consider numerical methods for solving finite-dimensional bifurcation problems. This paper includes the case of branching from the trivial solution at simple and multiple eigenvalues and perturbed bifurcation at simple eigenvalues. As a numerical example we treat a special rod buckling problem, where the boundary value problem is discretized by the shooting method.
