Crediting the agriculture was a constant concern of the Romanian banking sector. This aspect was and is related with the high share of the agricultural area present across the country and with the existence of a consistent rural population over time. In this paper I have marked the primary moments that have marked the lending activity of the agriculture from its beginning, until present. I outlined the fact that this activity has always been facing difficulties, something that has damaged the possibility of a sustainable development of this sector, whose main challenge remains the lack of funding adapted to the development needs.
