Nell’ultimo decennio l’evoluzione in campo biotecnologico ha portato istituzioni, autorità ed esperti ad interrogarsi sulla possibilità di applicare le norme in materia di oGM anche agli alimenti risultato dell’applicazione di nuove tecniche genomiche (c.d. New Plant Breeding Techniques o NPBT) A seguito della pronuncia della Corte di giustizia del luglio 2018 e in considerazione del permanere della situazione di incertezza, il Consiglio, nel novembre 2019, ha richiesto alla Commissione europea di raccogliere dei dati e presentare una proposta concreta sullo statuto delle NPBT entro il 2021, al fine di definire linee applicative chiare in materia e che fossero il frutto di un contemperamento tra esigenze tecnico-scientifiche e politiche. In the last decade, the evolution in the biotechnological field has led institutions, authorities and experts to question the possibility of applying the rules on GMOs also to food resulting from the application of new genomic techniques (so-called New Plant Breeding Techniques or NPBT). Following the ruling of the Court of Justice in July 2018 and in view of the continuing situation of uncertainty, the Council, in November 2019, requested the European Commission to collect data and present a concrete proposal on the status of NPBTs by 2021, in order to de ne clear applicative lines on the matter and that were the result of a balance between technical-scientific and political needs.
