description

In 1899 Ricarda Huch (1864–1947) published the first part of the treatise on German Romanticism entitled Blütezeit der Romantik (The Flowering of Romanticism). The results of further studies on Romanticism were presented in the second volume from 1902 entitled Ausbreitung und Verfall der Romantik (Popularization and fall of Romanticism). The aim of these investigations is to present, on the basis of the first volume of the study of Ricarda Huch, characters, motives of actions and features of the works of artists included in early Romanticism. Ricarda Huch, using the historical and biographical methods, presents the artistic biographies of August Wilhelm Schlegel, Friedrich Schlegel, Karoline Schlegel, Friedrich von Hardenberg (Novalis), concluding that it is Novalis who can be perceived as a typical representative of early Romanticism.
