The Institute of German Studies, which has existed at the University of Opole since 1990, not only teaches future Germanists, but also conducts literary and linguistic studies. In the present article, the research carried out shows the contribution that foreign German studies can make to the development of German linguistics, with particular reference to the monographs and articles from the field of linguistics, which in recent years have been made at the Opole University for German faculty. The works, which are partly to be regarded as general Germanic and partly as regionally relevant, enrich linguistics with new aspects of investigation and perspectives. At the same time, they give Opole German linguistics a firm place within Polish and European German studies and, with a focus on „German language in Upper Silesia“ Opole Germanistik a specific profile, the preservation of which is also ensured by the involvement of students in research work and the training of next generations of Germanists.
