Les reflexions que segueixen se situen en les fronteres entre ontologia, epistemologia i filosofia del llenguatge. No pot sorprendre aquesta situació: el més habitual és que els problemes filosòfics siguen problemes fronterers o, dit d'altra manera, que la reflexió filosòfica situe sempre els seus problemes allà on més s'emboliquen. The object of this paper is to carry out a criticat anatysls of the epistemological foundations of those extralinguistic elements to which it is necessary to resort in order to give an account of communication, both intratinguistic and interlinguistic. The paint of view adopted is exclusively philosophical, within the field of problems of philosophy of language, in connection with epistemology. After analysing two antagonistic starting points: semantic Platonism and radical empiricism, and pointing out their theoreticlt deficiencies in the solution of the epistemological problems of language, Quine's theory is discussed: the problem of radical translation and the thesis of the indeterminacy of translation. The paper ends with the proposal -following Wittgenstein- to give up the semamantic approach,replacing it with a primacy of pragmatics, from which linguistic behaviour is to be explained.
