description

The Massif central owns a large number of fortifications and height sites occupied between the Late Bronze Age IIIb and the beginning of earlyLa Tène. The rate of foundation and abandonment of these settlements corresponds perfectly to that observed in the rest of France with twomain phases of operation which correspond to the Final Bronze IIIb and the Final Hallstatt. Several ramparts have been excavated in recent yearsand confirm that this region is at the crossroads of both Mediterranean and continental influences in terms of defensive architecture. While someextensive excavations have made it possible to understand the status or function of these settlements, this aspect of the research, as elsewherein France, seems to be an axis to be favored in the years to come.
