Silesian publicists, watching carefully the changes within the culture on the turn of the 19-th century, noticed the symptoms of general culture transformations of the region (also on Highsilesian’s cemeteries), going beyond religion and national separateness. The speed of interculture exchange within modem, city cemetery subculture, for obvious reason, was higher. The basic, traditional, “familiar” iconsphere generally were making room for the new “visualisations”, promoted within this region by german, popular commercial culture. The coexistence of old and new patterns was not free of conflicts. Within the culture education program, published in local polish press relatively often was expressed the problems and troubles arising from the a/m conflicts. Most often was criticized the trash, taking possesion of silsian cemeteries and destroying the sense of beauty. The daub had more serious destructive influence on more imortant, metaphysical feelings. Defending the aesthetical values the publicists disclosed also their moral intention. “The cultural affranchisement” of Silesians was observed not only as the changes in cemetery aesthetic, but also as the new1 behaviour patterns. The examples of critical works of publicists mentioned in this article, show their deep anxiety of both aesthetical, and ethical and even metaphysical sensitivity level.
