The text examines the relocation of ceded Vyborg’s administrative, social and cultural institutions in the rest of Finland. The heritage of the city was fragmented over a large area because the remaining part of Karelia did not have a city large enough to accommodate the Vyborgian facilities. In this respect, the competition between the fairly strong regional centres slowed down the urban development of the whole of Eastern Finland. peerReviewed
