Research into pedagogy in museums underlines the double tranposition of the theory principles of the science media and of psycho-pedagogy. At stake is understanding why and how pupils can build their scientific learning in a museum environment. This present contribution will propose a reflection on this issue based on the example of the teaching of volcanism on Réunion Island. The analysis of interviews conducted with teachers in first schools and secondary schools shows to what extent the pupils benefit from a significant pedagogical impact in the framework of their visits to the thematic museum in Piton de la Fournaise. The results show that the teachers, going further than the objectives of the acquisition of simple skills, make significant contributions regarding communication and socialisation. But the perception of a teaching of geology, which is relatively complex to implement, questions the place of pedagogy in museums as a decisive complement or support, in the view of the expectations of the teachers and the aptitute of the pupils.
