La pollution lumineuse est progressivement devenue un enjeu environnemental. Elle produit ainsi de nouveaux périmètres pour l’action publique, dans un contexte de transition énergétique incitant à modifier les pratiques d’éclairage public pour protéger la « nuit noire ». Pour les territoires de faible densité, cette vision renouvelée de la nuit constitue une « aubaine » en termes de développement territorial. Des processus différenciés de protection, de labellisation et de mise en tourisme des « ressources environnementales nocturnes » émergent, devenant ainsi un levier de la transition énergétique. For several decades, the negative impacts of artificial light on environmental mechanisms have been identified. As a result, initiatives have been taken considering ‘ night-time’ as a challenge for public action, by promoting policies of protection and territorial development. New models and paths of public action have emerged, in a political context of “energy transition” which stresses that practices of consumption need to change. For low density rural areas, this regognition of the importance of the ‘night’ represents an opportunity to develop projects. Various processes of protection, branding and tourism development have emerged around the theme of “nocturnal environmental resources”. “Night-time” has become an active framework for local level projects and for effecting the energy transition.
