description

Summary The results of a great number of investigationshave shown that enzyme cytochemical methods, which have been developed for the study of animal and human histology and cytology, can be successfully used for the study of enzyme patterns in yeasts, moulds, slime moulds, dermatophytes, phytopathogenic fungi and basidiomycetes. Whereas with the older, relatively unspecific procedures only presence or absence of enzymes could be studied, improved techniques allow the examination of the intracellular localization of enzymes under the light and especially the electron microscope. The results of those investigations are described together with methodological aspects of cultivation, incubation, control reactions and the possibilities of a quantification of the staining.
