L’économie antique a intéressé des générations d’historiens qui ont proposé des approches théoriques sources de nombreux débats. Aujourd’hui, ce domaine de l’histoire est profondément renouvelé : les découvertes archéologiques incitent les chercheurs à proposer de nouvelles pistes de réflexion et à prendre en compte l’agencement spatial des activités économiques. L’Italie a vu se succéder dans l’Antiquité des civilisations d’artisans et de commerçants : ce numéro des Dossiers d’Archéologie est un état des lieux de recherches très récentes et dévoile comment Grecs, Étrusques puis Romains ont nourri leurs productions et leurs échanges d’influences culturelles variées.
