The sketch is an attempt to grasp the interpretation of the critical discourse of Adrian Gleń - the poet of “Topos”, professor at the Institute of Literary Studies at the University of Opole, author of numerous interpretations and critical discussions of recent poetry. The critic has articulated it both in Istnienie i literaturze [Existence and Literature] (Sopot 2010), Czułości [Tenderness] (Sopot 2014), and especially in his latest volume of essays on contemporary literary criticism, Krytyka i metafizyka [Criticism and Metaphysics] (Sopot 2017). In the latter, the author clearly crystallises his aim - to indicate the place of criticism in contemporary culture, the reasons for the decline of its authority, but also its prospects. A recipe for bringing contemporary criticism out of its crisis may be - as proposed by Adrian Gleń - “sensitive criticism”, which treats poetry as a “metaphysical task” and requires the critic to adopt the attitude of a philosopher-anthropologist-hermeneutic, as well as a mystic.
